Following previous problems in putting on the CSA Platinum Expedition (D of E Silver) the fact that Jenny was ill the week before didn't surprise anyone. Fortunately she recovered sufficiently to take part, sadly Danny had school commitments. So it was a happy band of four who met up with Dave Humphries, Helen and myself at the car park at the foot of Deepdale. Food promptly stuffed in every spare space in the rucsacs (and Nathan's pockets) and off they drudged uphill.
I met them at Monyash for the one and only time that day before they set off for Lathkill Dale (all agreed that this was nice but a little boring) - the sun shone and all were happy when they arrived in Birchover. Sadly there followed a disturbed night's sleep, not caused by the 100+ other D of E groups, but by the party that went on all night next to us!
Sunday dawned well and the intrepid four set off over Stanton Moor (stone circle) and passed the disputed quarry area (no sign of protestors) before what they all agreed was the most pleasant section through Chatsworth Park.
The overnight halt was at the Eric Byne Site near Baslow and proved a total contrast to the Birchover site with limited facilities, no other people and a poultry nesting in the toilet! Blisters were checked and treated before a night spent fending off pasty eating sheep.
The final day proved to be the longest with, firstly, a long haul along the Gritstone Edges and then a valley walk by the side of the Derwent before finally arriving at Ladybower Dam and journey's end.
Within this trip out of the way all four of them started to plan towards their QS expeditions.
